Have you tried every diet under the sun? You're eating "clean," moving your body & doing everything you think you're supposed to do, yet the scale keeps creeping UP?
This is one of the most frustrating parts of perimenopause, although it can happen with other hormonal & metabolic concerns too.
You're doing all the right things, but your body is no longer responding the way it used to!
Your clothes feel tighter. Your energy is lower. Your confidence takes a hit. You start wondering whether this is simply how things are going to be from now on.
But, you DON'T have to starve yourself to lose weight!
You DON'T need to exercise for hours every day to avoid gaining more!
Those approaches can be recipes for disaster!
Instead, we need to understand the physiological reasons WHY weight management may have become more challenging. Weight loss is SO MUCH MORE than eating less & exercising more!
Your hormones, metabolism, stress levels, sleep & overall health all influence how your body uses energy, regulates appetite & responds to changes in your diet and activity.
Here are some of the factors that may be working against you:
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuating estrogen, progesterone & testosterone can affect body composition, muscle mass & where your body stores fat, particularly during perimenopause.
Blood Sugar & Insulin Resistance: When your body becomes less responsive to insulin, blood sugar regulation becomes more challenging. Insulin resistance is also associated with increased abdominal fat & metabolic concerns.
Chronic Stress & Cortisol: Prolonged stress can affect appetite, sleep, energy & metabolic health, making weight management more difficult.
Gut Health & Inflammation: Digestive issues, chronic inflammation & certain gut-related conditions can affect nutrient absorption & overall metabolic health.
Thyroid Function: An underactive thyroid can slow energy expenditure, contributing to fatigue, fluid retention & weight gain.
Muscle Loss: As we age, we naturally become more susceptible to losing muscle, particularly if we aren't strength training. Less muscle can contribute to reduced energy expenditure & changes in body composition.
Poor Sleep: Inadequate sleep can disrupt appetite regulation, insulin sensitivity & energy levels, making it harder to manage your weight.
See why simply eating less & exercising more isn't always the answer? When several of these factors are working against you, losing weight & maintaining that loss can become increasingly challenging.
This is also why restrictive dieting can become such a frustrating cycle.
You drastically cut calories, lose some weight, hit a plateau & become discouraged. You cut calories further, increase your exercise & eventually find yourself exhausted, hungry & struggling to maintain your progress.
Once you return to your previous habits, the weight often comes back.
Your body adapts to weight loss by reducing energy expenditure & increasing hunger signals. These adaptations can make maintaining weight loss more difficult.
Your body isn't working AGAINST you. It's responding to the signals it's receiving!
The answer isn't always MORE restriction. It's a BETTER approach! One that addresses your hormones, blood sugar regulation, thyroid function, gut health, inflammation, stress, sleep & nutritional needs.
It's about nourishing your body adequately, prioritizing protein, building muscle, supporting healthy blood sugar regulation & creating sustainable habits.
To lose weight & keep it off FOR GOOD, you need to look at the bigger picture!
That's exactly why I created The Weight Loss & Wellness Club.
Inside the membership, we go beyond simply eating less & exercising more to explore the underlying factors that may be contributing to your weight management struggles.
