When it comes to your mental & emotional health, it isn't all in your head!
There are MANY physiological factors that can influence how you feel mentally & emotionally.
Prolonged stress, poor nutrition, hormonal changes, inflammation & underlying health conditions can all affect your brain chemistry, nervous system & overall well-being.
Yes, spiritual factors can play a role, but not everything is spiritual warfare! Sometimes your body is just asking for support.
Our physical, mental, emotional & spiritual health are interconnected. When one area is struggling, the others can be affected too.
Here are some physiological factors that impact mood & mental health:
Thyroid
- Low: Depression, brain fog, fatigue
- High: Anxiety, panic, irritability, insomnia
Adrenals (Cortisol)
- High: Anxiety, panic, sleep issues
- Low: Depression, apathy, fatigue, poor stress tolerance
Sex Hormones
- High estrogen: Mood swings, anxiety, depression
- Low estrogen: Depression, fatigue
- Low progesterone: Anxiety, PMS, low mood, sleep issues
- High testosterone: Irritability, rage
- Low testosterone: Apathy, poor focus
Blood Sugar
- Low blood sugar can cause irritability, anxiety, brain fog & mood swings
Gut Health
- Poor digestion & absorption lead to nutrient deficiencies
- Microbiome imbalances are linked to anxiety, depression & insomnia
- Infections or overgrowth can cause low mood, brain fog & irritability
Nutrient Deficiencies
B6, zinc, iron, magnesium, vitamin D & omega-3s all play a major role in neurotransmitters, hormones & mood regulation.
Inflammation
Strongly linked to anxiety & depression.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mental health is to support your physiology.
This is why I encourage you to TEST, DON'T GUESS!
Many symptoms overlap, and what looks like anxiety, depression or chronic fatigue may have physiological contributors worth investigating.
Depending on your symptoms & health history, appropriate testing may help identify thyroid dysfunction, blood sugar concerns, nutrient deficiencies or other factors affecting your well-being.
It's also important to remember that mental health is complex. Physiological factors are one piece of the puzzle, and mental health treatment or additional medical care may also be needed.
You deserve to understand what's happening in your body rather than simply being told to push through!
If you've been struggling mentally or emotionally & suspect something deeper may be happening physiologically, I'd love to help you investigate.
During a one-on-one appointment, we can review your symptoms, health history, lifestyle & relevant lab results to explore potential contributing factors and determine appropriate next steps.
If you're ready to start building a healthier foundation, I'd also love to welcome you into The Weight Loss & Wellness Club.
Inside the membership, we explore how nutrition, stress, sleep, hormone health, blood sugar regulation, gut health & other lifestyle factors influence your physical, mental & emotional well-being.
